Gala Opera Evening

Friday 24th June  5.30pm - 9pm

Two Gardens unite to stage exclusive Gala Opera Evening!

For the first time, this year the Head Gardener & Secret Garden Party’s creative team will be dispensing several sprinkles of their own inimitable ‘magic’ by sponsoring and designing a very special Gala Opera Evening. The award-winning and much-celebrated Secret Garden Party is regarded as one of the most creative and spectacular independent arts & music events in the summer season’s calendar.

This Friday evening event runs from 5.30pm -9pm. Whether a family and friends group or a more formal organisation this promises to be a most memorable cultural and sensory experience. Each group, comprising a maximum of 20 people, will be taken on a private walk via choice spots of the gardens by rotation with each garden ‘room’ providing the setting for an entrancing performance by member(s) of the Diva Opera company.

Diva Opera, Britain’s foremost chamber opera company, was founded by Anne Marabini Young and Bryan Evans in 1996, and since then it has given more than 2,000 performances of 50 different operas and concert programmes for festivals, theatres and charities throughout the UK, Europe and Japan.

Evidence suggests the genre was originally meant to be enjoyed on evenings al fresco in Italy, and it certainly took place at the Sun King’s Versailles. Handel is thought to have staged ‘Acis’ outdoors in the summer months in Chandos. So, on a rather more intimate scale, opera will be returning to its pastoral roots though on this occasion in a beautiful English garden.

Freddie Fellowes, eldest son of Lord De Ramsey of Abbots Ripton Hall, and founder of the Secret Garden Party says :

‘It's really fun turning our hands to something new that not only benefits the area but engages such a wide range of collaborations.’
